Text from your dumb phone, on any computer.
MorseHub puts your phone's texts in a browser tab. You read and type on the computer. The texts still go out from your phone, on your own number.
Invite only. Up to 5 people.
For dumb phones
Phones on Android 8 to 11 with no good way to text from a computer: the Light Phone II, the Sonim XP3plus and XP5plus, and phones like them.
Smartphones already have this. Google Messages for web and Phone Link do it for free.
How it works
- Install the phone app. Sideload MorseHub on the phone and enter your invite code. It asks to send and read texts.
- Pair a computer. The phone shows a code. Type it on the computer. The code carries the key that locks your texts.
- Text. Read and reply in the browser. The phone sends each text from its SIM, so people see your usual number.
What the relay sees
Your texts are locked on the phone before they leave it, and unlocked only in browsers you paired. The key travels in the pairing code, never through the relay. A copy of the relay shows nothing readable.
The same server also sends this web app to your browser, so you are trusting the page it sends. That is the honest limit today.
Limits
- Pictures stay on the relay for 15 days, locked. After that, Tap to view loads them again from the phone.
- The phone needs signal. Texts go out through its SIM, not the internet.
- Up to 5 people, invite only.
- Not on the Play Store. You install the phone app yourself.
Request access
Chris reads every request. MorseHub stays small, so there may not be a spot.
Download the phone app
For Android 8 to 11.
Download MorseHub for AndroidIt is not on the Play Store. Copy the file to the phone and open it to install. Android asks you to allow installs from that source.
Light Phone II has no way to open the file. Plug it into a computer with ADB and run:
adb install morsehub.apk
adb shell am start -n cc.chrismartin.morsehub/.SetupActivity
You need an invite code to finish setup.
